Learn About Love From Watching The Bachelor
Have I told you I love you yet this Valentine's day?
Since today is the day of love, let's chat about some of the best practices to help in ALL stages of a relationship.
Whether you are on a first date or enjoying a romantic evening with your spouse, you will find some good tips here to keep the love flame burning...
AND if you are watching Netflix with your cat tonight, these are all tips that you can use with your friends as practice, and when you get the energy flowing towards showing love, you will start to attract more!
The best part is, that I learned that all from this season of The Bachelor, and when I looked at the classic book "How to Win Friends and Influence People", they all checked out.
Love tip #1: Ask questions and care about the response
It is all too easy to get caught up in the whirlwind of your own day and not give two poops about how your man's day/best friend's day went.
On The Bachelor, when Ben tells the women that a family friend has passed away, all Olivia cared about was that she was having a bad day and wanted to talk to him about how the girls made fun of her giant ankles. No Bueno.
Practice putting yourself in someone else's shoes. How would you want to be treated?
Action: Here are some ways you can ask someone about their day and really show you care:
Use open body language, ask lots of questions, make eye contact, and show empathy.
Love tip #2: Actions speak louder than words
I am going to continue to pick on Olivia because she has been pretty nasty!
We all know someone who constantly say things like "I am so not like that", "I'm the type of girl who", "I am so x, y and z".
Olivia continuous talks about how mature, intellectual and kind hearted she is, but then continues to trash talk the other women.
If you want people to see the best sides of you, show them, don't tell them, much like saying I love you is not enough, you have to make someone feel special.
Action: Write out your five best traits and how you can act on them today! If you value your kindheartedness, send a friend a nice email.
Love tip #3: Show all sides of yourself
Adorable Caila is bubbly, cute and wears a giant smile pretty much 24/7. Ben spoke to her about how she smiles so much and that it was kind of scary because he did not think she would know how to handle negative situations.
You have to be vulnerable to feel connected. Talk about your fears, your hopes and your dreams.
Action: Whether you have a partner, a new fling or a bestie, come up with 1-2 deep questions to chat about today. Ask where they see themselves in ten years, or what they think is holding them back from living their dream life. Have answers prepared for yourself too!
Love tip #4: Trust in your relationship or lack there of
On The Bachelor, Ben is dating like 10 girls right now. We can imagine how hard it would be to be one of them and watch him go on dates and be affectionate with other girls.
I can only hope that is not the situation for you, but at the end of the day, all you can do is trust that you are in the right relationship for you, at the right time OR if you are single right now, it's because the right guy is going to be coming into your life and you should not fill up the space with just any body!
If you are constantly doubting your relationship or yourself it is not going to work.
Action: Come up with a mantra about trusting you universe. Try "I know I am in the right place in my life right now and that I am on my journey to reach my best self".
Love tip #5: Trust your heart
You know when you are being loved and treated with the right amount of respect you deserve in both friendships and romantic relationships.
You have to learn the difference between fears and what your heart is telling you.
Fear could be telling you that you can't do better, or that you can do better, that you are not deserving, that you are not ready...
All of these subconscious beliefs can be ingrained in your head since the age of 8! If your concerns boil down to fear of failing, fear that you are not good enough, fear of changing or fear of being happier than the unhappy people around you, chances are you are listening to your head and not your heart.
Action: Meditate. Close your eyes and relax into a meditation with the intention of feeling how your body reacts to certain thoughts. Get to know your body's responses. It's actually easier than it sounds, you are in your body every day after all...
